Akismet 3.0 is now available!
The latest and greatest version of Akismet is no longer just a release candidate and is now available for download! Version 3.0 includes a bunch of new features and overall improvements, you can read the official release post here.
A few of the changes:
- Move Akismet to Settings menu
- Drop Akismet Stats menu
- Add stats snapshot to Akismet settings
- Add Akismet subscription details and status to Akismet settings
- Add contextual help for each page
- Improve Akismet setup to use Jetpack to automate plugin setup
- Fix Update Check for Spam to use ajax to avoid page timing out
- Fix Akismet settings page to be responsive
- Drop legacy code
- Tidy up CSS and Javascript
- Replace the old discard setting with a new “discard pervasive spam” feature.
One thing you may notice is that there is no longer two separate areas to look in for stats and configuration changes – they’re both in the same place. If you’re a Jetpack user, the Akismet link will appear under the Jetpack menu. If not, the link will show in Settings, oh and of course on the plugins page.
And if you’re looking to drill into your stats, use the ‘Summaries’ link located on the top right of the page to see the same great graphs and stats you’re used to seeing.

Automattic 2013 Grand Meetup Photos
I spent the last week in both San Francisco and Santa Cruz for the annual Automattic Grand Meetup, and it was simply amazing. Aside from smaller team gatherings, the whole company doesn’t come together in one place very often, but when we do….awesome things happen.
Here are a few photos I snapped with my phone. Not expecting any of these to win a Pulitzer Prize for Photography, but they’re totally worth sharing. Looking forward to next year already (where I’ll have a better camera!).

What’s the best way to unwind after a long day at the office? A couple of drinks at a bar? Pfft… Not at Automattic. You’d need to add awesome snacks, over 200 close friends, and wait for it… Fire Dancers. Yep, that’s right .. Fire Dancers.
There’s no adequate description for the awesomeness that IS Automattic, both the company and the people. But there is video to show a small piece of it.

PDX to PHF – Back home
It’s been a long day, but I’m finally back home. Slightly unpacked, and relaxing. Aside from the little snafu with Delta “misplacing” a Pilot along with his Co-Pilot for a short time, there were no real problems. I’m not extremely pleased with the TSA unpacking souvenirs and not wrapping them back up – fortunately nothing was damaged.
Had an interesting conversation last night about how awful Hunger Games was (both the cinematic and written versions) and while browsing through the airport bookstore in Portland I ran across a copy for only $4. In over eight hours of flying, and many more in the airports, I only managed to read about forty pages – it’s just not grabbing me. So, James, Phil, you may have been right, but I’m determined to see it through.
